OUR HISTORY

As a fifth-generation employee in the lumber industry, Nick worked for his father at Foley Lumber for nearly ten years. After Foley Lumber was sold to a national corporation in 2021, Nick worked as a location manager in sales, but he ultimately felt drawn back to the family-owned model.

In early 2025, Nick, together with his wife Rachel, took a major step in honoring his family’s history by opening a new, independent lumberyard in Foley, Minnesota.  The business sits on seven acres on the northwest corner of the busy intersection of Highway 25 and Highway 23 in Foley. The business now employs over ten people and is now fully operational. Kotsmith Lumber aims to blend the old with the new, reviving the trusted Kotsmith name in the local lumber scene.

Nick and Rachel started Kotsmith Lumber to support the loyal customer base, provide meaningful jobs to people in the community, and provide a legacy for their three boys.
